Accession Specialist. 

The Accession Specialist will be trained in compliance and scientific principles of diagnostic processes as related to accessioning/data entry by providing oversight to the Accession Clerks who process the samples with guidance with compliance. This includes the ability to recall policy and answer questions that may impact sample processing. Any incomplete patient information and billing is also obtained for data entry into the database.

Responsibilities

· Managing patient sample flow from point of receipt to delivery of specimens to the appropriate laboratories. This includes knowledge of test/sample requirements for all laboratories with accurate data entry of patient demographics, billing, and test information into the genetic database.

· Customer services skills are also required for communications with staff and ordering physicians/laboratories.

· Provide queries from the database for pertinent information required for weekly meetings/QA.

· Assist with the accessioning of patient samples as needed.

· Thorough knowledge of Epic and Medgis data entry is required.

· Trouble-shooting any issues with the above systems, with submissions of service tickets to the appropriate vendors/IT is required.

· Any safety concerns that affect the Accession area are emailed to the safety officer for rapid response should there be alarms in the loading dock area.

· Managing and orchestrating duties/responsibilities of Accession processing functions including QC within Epic and Medgis that is defined in daily operations.

· Other administrative duties may be assigned as required, and also communicating with the clinical staff as needed for clarification of test orders/requisition status.

· Ensures the Accession office and sample processing area is cleaned daily with unobstructed work areas.

· Ensures chain of custody samples are processed according to protocol.

· Ensures Evoqua water system QC readings are recorded daily, Monday – Friday.

· Ensures test/data uploads from spreadsheets are accurately entered.

· Makes suggestions for quality improvement as needed.

· Trains new employees as needed.

The Accession Specialist reports to the Accession Supervisor/QA Manager.

Basic Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in science/medical related field or a Bachelor's degree with relevant job experience
