Description
The community is invited to join the Department of Art + Design for a reception and conversation with artist Jason Lindsey Thursday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. Lindsey’s latest exhibit, “Cracks in the Ice,” will be on display in the Lander Art Gallery inside the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center beginning Wednesday, Sept. 27 through Tuesday, Oct. 31. The reception, and visits to the gallery, are free and open to the public, and the gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Jason Lindsey is a Midwest-based photographer and filmmaker working to interpret science and the human impacts and relationship to the natural world. Lindsey considers himself a poetic activist using his art to drive social change. Lindsey received his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Illinois State University, and has a 20-year career in advertising and editorial photography with a continued focus on fine art photography. Photo assignments have taken him to the jungles of the Amazon, the glaciers of Iceland, the wilds of Alaska and the waters of Belize. Lindsey is currently the artist in residence at Prairie Rivers Network. His photographs are featured in exhibits around the world, including exhibits in Paris and New York City. “Cracks in the Ice,” according to Lindsey, was inspired by his 15-year-old son, Björn, who asked him what the world might look like in the future as a result of climate change. “As a father, I hated that I could not provide much clarity for Björn and knew I needed to explore this idea with a photography project,” Lindsey said. “‘Cracks in the Ice’ was born.” Lindsey has been featured in “PDN,” “Communication Arts” and “Archive Magazine” and was named one of the top 200 Advertising Photographers Worldwide in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Lindsey’s book “Windy City Wild: Chicago’s Natural Wonders” was published by Chicago Review Press. Please visit www.lander.edu/events for updates and to confirm event times and venues.
