Description

Lander Film Festival Kickoff Workshop – Short Film Competition Begins Feb. 26

Lander University’s College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences is launching the 16th annual Lander Film Festival with its Short Film Competition Kickoff Workshop on Thursday, February 26 at 4 p.m. The workshop will be held in Barksdale Recital Hall (CC 250).

Participants interested in entering the competition are encouraged to register at www.landerfilmfestival.com.

During the kickoff, filmmakers will receive a required line of dialogue that must appear in their completed five‑minute film. This element—unique to the Lander Film Festival—challenges creators to think creatively as they write, produce, and edit their submissions within a ten‑day window.

“It’s a defining feature of our festival,” said Dr. Robert Stevenson, chair of the Lander Film Festival and professor of Journalism. “Filmmakers often have to rethink or reshape their concepts entirely, and that’s part of what makes this experience so valuable.”

The Short Film Competition is open to all skill levels and features three divisions:

  • High School
  • College
  • Open Division

Registration fees are $20 for High School and College entrants and $25 for the Open Division. Fees may be paid through the day of the workshop.

Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each division. Full competition guidelines and registration are available at www.landerfilmfestival.com.

A week of festival events begins March 17, culminating in the Short Film Screening and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 21 at 4 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium.
