Description

Lander’s Katie Varn to Give Senior Recital

GREENWOOD, S.C.—Lander University invites the community to attend a student recital Thursday, Dec. 4, by Katie Varn, a bass clarinetist and senior music education major. The program is free and open to the public, and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium.

About the Event:

Ever since Lander senior Katie Varn was young, she has had a deep connection with music. When she was 12, she realized she could share her love of music through education. Throughout her academic journey, Varn has discovered that music is not just a hobby or something to do for fun; it’s a way of life.

At Lander, Varn has branched into many different instruments and musical groups. She has played alto and baritone saxophone for the Lander Jazz Ensemble, and has played bass clarinet for the Lander Wind Ensemble and Woodwind Ensemble.

Varn also has extensive vocal experience, singing for many churches in and around Greenwood. Varn says that music has shaped her into the person she is today, and that she hopes this recital will not only demonstrate her love for music, but also share her gratitude and appreciation for everyone who has been involved in her music and academic career.

Varn is expected to complete her Bachelor of Science in Music (with K-12 Certification) in May of 2026. After graduation, she hopes to teach music at an elementary school, or lead a middle school band program in South Carolina.
